NEW ORLEANS – Former District Court Judge Nadine Ramsey officially announced her candidacy for mayor, ending weeks of speculation and rumors.
Nadine Ramsey
Ramsey, 54, joins Sen. Ed Murray, attorney James Perry and businessman Troy Henry as official candidates for mayor. Millionaire John Georges and attorney Rob Couhig are expected to announce their intentions to run for mayor, while state Rep. Austin Badon removed his name from consideration to run for City Council District E, which is currently held by Cynthia Willard-Lewis.
Ramsey, a native New Orleanian who grew up in the Lower 9th Ward, resigned as a District Court judge to run for mayor. “I resigned my job as Judge to run, because I am determined to see this city and our people come back strong, prosper in a renewed and new economy, and fulfill the destiny of being the great city that New Orleans has always been,” Ramsey said in an e-mail.
A judge for the last 13 years in Orleans Parish, Ramsey has also worked as an assistant city attorney for New Orleans and an assistant attorney general for Louisiana.
