Original Article: Le Beaujolais Nouveau est arrivé (Almost)

Thursday November 19th the third Thursday of November is the date for the release of the 2009 Beaujolais Nouveau.  The publicity surrounding the release of the Beaujolais Nouveau really took hold in the 1970’s in France as a way to increase demand and get some quick cash flow to the negociants soon after harvest.  Beaujolais Nouveau is meant for consumption upon release and is best served with a slight chill.  There are a few events taking place in the city to celebrate the release of the 2009 Nouveau.

For those of you who want to be the first on your block to taste the 2009 and give back to Charity I suggest you spend Wednesday Night November 18th  with my friends and I at Calcasieu (Above Cochon Restaurant.)  The event, which benefits Second Harvesters Food Bank will feature Macon Villages and Beaujolais Villages from George Duboeuf poured between 9 and Midnight.  At 12:01 will start pouring the Beaujolais Nouveau with the help of Can Can dancers who will have been performing throughout the night.  There will be some passed hors d’oeuvres as well as a roasted pork carving station and even a Cochon Cocktail for those of you not into wine.  A Silent auction will feature wines, Restaurant Gift Certificates, Art, Jewelry and other items and all the money goes to Second Harvesters.

Anyone who brings a canned food item with them will receive a free ticket for a raffle to win fabulous prizes.  Did I mention Can Can Dancers?  Tickets are $30 dollars and are available at Cochon Butcher, at the door or by calling 504-588-2189 ext 4.  See You Wednesday Night!

For those of you who can wait until Thursday the French American Chamber of Commerce is having a Beaujolais Nouveau Festival at The Southern Food and Beverage Museum from 7 until 10 P.M.  Along with the Nouveau they will also be featuring wines from the Crus (different villages deemed worthy to attach the village name to the Beaujolais) of Beaujolais as well as food from some local restaurants.  Tickets for the Festival are $45 for members and $55 for non members.
