Original Article: Attorney: No plans to call Nagin to testify in crime camera trial

NEW ORLEANS — An attorney for two companies that allege their crime camera system was ripped off by people tied to the New Orleans technology office says he doesn’t plan to call Mayor Ray Nagin to testify in the case.

Nagin had been on the list of expected witnesses in the civil trial that began Sept. 14.

Attorney Jim Garner said Friday that he doesn’t believe Nagin’s testimony is necessary to the plaintiffs’ case at this point.

Southern Electronics Supply Inc. and Active Solutions LLC worked on the city’s initial camera program and claim their system was misappropriated by former Nagin technology chief Greg Meffert and others tied to the office. They also allege a conspiracy with Dell Inc. to sell the system. Meffert and Dell have disputed the claims.
